Por eso la Administraci\u00f3n de Alimentos y Medicamentos de EE.UU. (FDA) est\u00e1 revisando su normativa. Para mantenerse al d\u00eda con la ciencia moderna y garantizar la seguridad, calidad y eficacia, la FDA ha propuesto actualizar los requisitos para m\u00e1s productos de venta libre.<\/p><p>Algunos principios activos generalmente reconocidos como seguros y eficaces (GRASE) pueden comercializarse sin someterse a un proceso de solicitud de nuevo medicamento a trav\u00e9s de la FDA. Actualmente, s\u00f3lo dos principios activos comercializados -el \u00f3xido de cinc y el di\u00f3xido de titanio- se consideran (GRASE).<br \/>Seg\u00fan la normativa propuesta, los productos que contienen otros dos ingredientes activos -PABA y salicilato de trolamina- no se consideran GRASE para los protectores solares y necesitar\u00edan la aprobaci\u00f3n de la FDA antes de comercializarse. La agencia afirma que no hay datos suficientes sobre otros doce ingredientes y ha pedido a la industria de los protectores solares que realice pruebas adicionales.<\/p><p>Para ayudar a los consumidores a identificar la informaci\u00f3n clave, la FDA quiere que los ingredientes activos figuren en la parte frontal de los envases, equiparando as\u00ed los protectores solares a otros medicamentos de venta libre regulados por la FDA.<\/p><p>Tambi\u00e9n se propone un nuevo valor m\u00e1ximo de FPS en la etiqueta. El l\u00edmite actual es SPF 50+, pero la agencia afirma que las nuevas pruebas demuestran beneficios adicionales asociados a los protectores solares SPF 60 de amplio espectro.<\/p><p>El amplio espectro le protege tanto de los rayos UVA como de los UVB, que pueden provocar un envejecimiento prematuro y causar c\u00e1ncer de piel. Por eso la FDA propone que todos los protectores solares con valores de FPS iguales o superiores a 15 cumplan los requisitos de amplio espectro y, a medida que aumenta el FPS, tambi\u00e9n aumenta la protecci\u00f3n de amplio espectro.<\/p><p>Dado que los protectores solares pueden aplicarse de diversas formas, la FDA tiene diferentes recomendaciones. Para los protectores solares que incluyen aerosoles, aceites, lociones, cremas, geles, mantecas, pastas, ung\u00fcentos y barras, la agencia dice que son generalmente reconocidos como seguros y eficaces (GRASE), pero se necesitan m\u00e1s datos para los protectores solares en polvo.<\/p><p>Los formularios que no se consideran GRASE son: toallitas, toallitas h\u00famedas, jabones corporales y champ\u00fas. Para recibir el estatus GRASE, tendr\u00edan que pasar por el proceso de aprobaci\u00f3n de nuevos medicamentos. En lo que respecta a la combinaci\u00f3n de protector solar y repelente de insectos, la FDA no etiquetar\u00e1 los productos como GRASE debido a las incompatibilidades entre las instrucciones del protector solar y el repelente de insectos.<\/p><p>La propuesta de la FDA est\u00e1 a disposici\u00f3n del p\u00fablico hasta el 28 de mayo. Utilice como m\u00ednimo un SPF 30 con protecci\u00f3n de amplio espectro. Apl\u00edquela quince minutos antes de la exposici\u00f3n y vuelva a aplicarla al menos cada dos horas o con m\u00e1s frecuencia si suda o nada.
