[00:00:01] well sweating is a normal process
[00:00:04] preventing the body from overheating
[00:00:06] excessive sweating though or
[00:00:08] hyperhidrosis it's an embarrassing
[00:00:10] medical medical condition that could
[00:00:12] interfere with everyday activities like
[00:00:14] work and social life however many may
[00:00:16] not know that it is treatable here to
[00:00:18] tell us about a treatment is Carmen
[00:00:20] Reyes she's a physician assistant from
[00:00:22] affiliated dermatology and along with
[00:00:23] her is Caitlin who recently received the
[00:00:27] treatment thank you for both of you for
[00:00:29] being here so Carmen I want to start
[00:00:31] start with you what exactly is
[00:00:33] hyperhidrosis hyperhidrosis is a medical
[00:00:36] condition that causes the excessive
[00:00:38] sweating is typically localized to one
[00:00:40] or two areas of the body the most common
[00:00:42] area is the underarms but it can also
[00:00:44] affect the hands and the feet as well
[00:00:46] and you said it's like when you when we
[00:00:49] say excessive sweating we're talking
[00:00:50] like dripping right yes dripping from
[00:00:53] the areas Wow Wow what is the difference
[00:00:55] between sweating and having
[00:00:58] hyperhidrosis sweating is a normal
[00:01:01] process it prevents our bodies from
[00:01:02] overheating typically when it is warm
[00:01:05] outside when we're nervous when we're
[00:01:07] exercising hyperhidrosis is an increase
[00:01:09] in the amount of sweat and happens for
[00:01:11] no apparent reason
[00:01:12] Wow Wow now Caitlin you have this
[00:01:15] problem originally and you were telling
[00:01:18] me that it's very embarrassing what was
[00:01:20] going on what was your body doing so
[00:01:22] just normal day-to-day activity I would
[00:01:24] sweat for no apparent reason and you
[00:01:28] know I work with a lot of people and I
[00:01:29] reach over them all the time so anytime
[00:01:32] that that would be occurring you know
[00:01:33] it's extremely embarrassing yes I can
[00:01:36] only imagine and plus not to mention
[00:01:39] your clothes right it would have did it
[00:01:42] ruin your clothes yeah I probably could
[00:01:44] wear an outfit maybe one to two times
[00:01:45] and then I'd have to go shopping again
[00:01:47] okay can get expensive right yeah all
[00:01:51] right so so Caitlin went in for the
[00:01:53] treatment so explain what the treatment
[00:01:56] process is exactly Carmen absolutely
[00:01:59] Botox is used for treating hyperhidrosis
[00:02:02] okay and a tiny amount of Botox is
[00:02:05] injected under the skin under the on on
[00:02:07] the underarms okay
[00:02:09] did it hurt Caitlin it's a very very
[00:02:12] painless
[00:02:13] Wow new socks wasn't expecting you to go
[00:02:16] there alright so like Botox with you
[00:02:19] know normally we're used to hearing that
[00:02:20] you know where we get it in our faces
[00:02:22] how long do these treatments last is a
[00:02:24] typical like a Botox injection this
[00:02:27] treatment lasts six months or longer so
[00:02:30] it's typically a little longer than what
[00:02:31] you would see for cosmetic purposes okay
[00:02:33] so what happened Caitlin after you got
[00:02:36] the injection how long before you saw
[00:02:38] results in and tell me how you felt
[00:02:40] afterwards your confidence level so it
[00:02:42] took maybe four days I got the treatment
[00:02:46] on a Monday and then I noticed by Friday
[00:02:48] that I hadn't been sweating anymore yeah
[00:02:51] Wow so that must have been just so
[00:02:55] wonderful a feeling for you yeah
[00:02:57] absolutely
[00:02:59] does it I'm sure it gives you a little
[00:03:00] bit more confidence - yes yes a lot more
[00:03:03] and they can buy clothes and not have to
[00:03:05] go shopping again well that's good news
[00:03:09] as well who is really a good candidate I
[00:03:11] mean how do you know I guess you know
[00:03:13] all right
[00:03:14] anybody who has this condition really
[00:03:16] knows it's interfering with everyday
[00:03:18] activities if it happens on your hands
[00:03:21] or your feet it becomes difficult even
[00:03:23] shake hands with people and if you tried
[00:03:26] antiperspirant or prescription
[00:03:28] medications and they don't seem to be
[00:03:29] effective you may be the right candidate
[00:03:31] for Botox okay and how do you find out
[00:03:33] when somebody comes in you do in a
[00:03:35] consultation a series of questions you
[00:03:37] know be able to know absolutely I take
[00:03:39] him that detailed medical history okay
[00:03:41] my patients and then we will go on and
[00:03:43] talk about a treatment plan all right
[00:03:45] and the treatment is fairly quick I'm
[00:03:47] assuming it's just the series of
[00:03:49] injections and you're good it doesn't
[00:03:51] take very long and results are quick and
[00:03:53] they're dramatic yeah yeah life-changing
[00:03:56] Caitlin would you say yes absolutely
[00:03:58] good for you good for you all right well
[00:04:00] thank you for sharing that by the way
[00:04:02] that's in Carmen thank you for the
[00:04:03] information who knew right that this
[00:04:05] condition could be treated this is good
[00:04:07] news she also brought along a special
[00:04:09] offer they are doing complimentary
[00:04:11] consultations plus 20% off the treatment
[00:04:15] there you go affiliated dermatology they
