Losing Your Locks? Regrow Your Hair Using PRP Treatments

Losing your hair? PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a naturally occurring growth factor that helps with the restoration and repair of hair for both men and women. Carmen Rayis, PA-C of Affiliated Dermatology in Scottsdale, AZ explains how platelet-rich plasma is used to regrow hair with the help of her patient and his journey with PRP hair rejuvenation.

PRP hair rejuvenation is a non-surgical alternative for hair loss that includes a simple three-step process in which a person’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp.

What causes hair loss?

There can be many reasons as to why someone starts losing their hair. One of the most common reasons is due to heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions, or medications. Hair loss is more common in men, but it can still occur in women. If you suffer from androgenetic alopecia, PRP injections for hair loss could be an option to regain your confidence back.

What is PRP Hair Rejuvenation?

PRP therapy for hair loss is a treatment that involves withdrawing a patient’s own blood, processing it so that only the enriched cells (platelet-rich plasma) remain, and injecting it into the scalp. PRP contains essential proteins that stimulate natural hair growth.

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. PRP is blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets. As a concentrated source of autologous platelets, PRP contains several different growth factors and other cytokines that stimulate healing of bone and soft tissue, as well as hair growth. Human blood contains mesenchymal stem cells and autologous blood products that contain essential and specific growth factors that assist in tissue regeneration and healing.

In the field of hair restoration, evidence supports PRP therapy as a promising treatment to promote hair growth, although no claim can be made of its efficacy. Studies have shown that growth factors released from platelets may act on stem cells in the bulge area of the follicles, stimulating the development of new follicles and promoting neovascularization.

What can I expect during a PRP treatment?

Upon arrival at the Affiliated Dermatology, you will be escorted to one of our private hair restoration treatment rooms. One of our qualified PRP specialists will draw your blood just as though you were having routine blood testing at your primary care physician’s office.

The drawn blood is then spun in a sterile centrifuge system, which separates the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. The system eliminates granulocytes which can harm tissue regeneration. Topical anesthesia is applied to the scalp to reduce any discomfort during the PRP treatment. The highly concentrated platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the scalp.

After treatment, you are able to drive after the procedure and return to your daily routine. Typically, we recommend a total of 4 treatments scheduled 4 weeks apart, followed by maintenance every 3 months. This will vary depending on the severity of hair loss and the desired result. A treatment plan will be discussed at your initial consultation.

  1. PRP Hair Restoration /
Worried about hair loss at a very early age or even later in life? Well, don’t be anymore because hair restoration has now been made easy. The use of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) – a product made from a patient’s own blood, for hair restoration – as an injection into the scalp to promote hair growth, is taking the hair industry by storm because it really works! PRP hair restoration is now making wonders happen.

The method makes growth factors isolated from your blood to re-stimulate the hair follicles, causing new hair follicle proliferation and promoting regrowth and improved hair quality thereby resulting in hair restoration.

Hair makes up a huge part of how we feel about ourselves, and how confident we feel when we present ourselves to the world. Thinning, patchy or balding hair can be a source of sadness, stress and even embarrassment, often making us feel less sexy and tired looking or aged. Concerns about hair loss affect men and women equally, and both the sexes look for solutions that will have them look like their young selves again and that is entirely possible with PRP hair restoration in Toronto at our clinic.

  2. It’s fascinating how they can use plasma from your blood to stimulate natural growth in the scalp. My fiance is starting to experience some thinning on the top of his head, and he is pretty self-conscious about it. I think PRP could be really beneficial for his confidence.

  3. Premature hair loss has emerged as a major issue and everyone should be aware of the effectiveness of the PRP treatment to restore the hair. However, a person should be very careful while undergoing such therapy. Skilled and experienced professionals should be hired to make the treatment effective. Besides, a person should do a lot of research on the internet to aware of the pros and cons associated with PRP treatment.

  4. It’s good to know that topical anesthesia is applied to your scalp before they begin the PRP treatment. I was afraid it would hurt so I’m glad I won’t feel it. I’ll talk to my wife about getting a PRP treatment for my hair loss.
