At Affiliated Dermatology, we offer our patients a wide range of injectables tailored to suit their needs; from Botox and Dysport, used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, to fillers and volumizers like Juvederm and Restylane, our treatments promote youthful, beautiful-looking skin.
What are Cosmetic Injectables?
Cosmetic injectables include a broad range of non-invasive fillers and neurotoxins/neuromodulators administered via injections for rapid results requiring virtually zero recovery time.
There are many different types of non-invasive injectables, making it possible for patients to achieve their aesthetic goals with completely-customized treatment plans. Whether you’re hoping to fade fine lines and wrinkles, highlight a favorite feature, or simply restore a fresh-faced, youthful appearance, we can help you choose the injectable that best suits you.
Are Cosmetic Injectables FDA-Approved?
Yes, there are several excellent injectables that have earned approval from the FDA. In order to receive FDA approval, a product/treatment is required to demonstrate both safety and efficacy, making it an outstanding accomplishment.
Some of the best-known FDA-approved injectables include Botox, Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, and others.
Different Types of Cosmetic Injectables
Most cosmetic injectables are made in several different versions, each one serving a specific need and/or area of the face. There are also often two formulations of each version, one with lidocaine (to minimize any potential discomfort during the procedure) and one without.
Generally, there are three main categories of cosmetic injectables:
Injectables for reducing wrinkles include FDA-approved anti-aging injectables such as Botox and Dysport. These injectable treatments are intended to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily relaxing certain muscles to minimize the everyday movements that actually contribute to these signs of aging.
For patients at our offices in Scottsdale and Phoenix, Botox and Dysport are ideal for dynamic wrinkles (the ones that are visible when you make different facial expressions).
Botox, Dysport, and other wrinkle-reduction injectables might be right for you if your goals include:
- Softening both deep wrinkles and fine lines
- Smoothing the overall appearance of skin
- Proactively slowing down the development of fine lines and wrinkles
Botox & Dysport
Botox and Dysport are FDA-approved injectables that are aesthetically designed to smooth and diminish wrinkles. The most common areas treated are crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, frown lines, around the eye area and brow lifts. However, other areas are becoming more popular with patients are the lines around the lips, and even underarm sweating. The differences among the neurotoxins vary; product distribution from the injection site, the onset of results and more. Average patient results: 2 to 3 months.
Volume enhancers, also known as injectable fillers, are one of the most versatile treatments available. You can choose from several highly effective options such as Restylane and Juvéderm in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and other Valley cities served by Affiliated Dermatology.
Some injectable volume fillers stimulate the natural production of collagen, while others deposit small amounts of hyaluronic acid (something already produced by your body) to achieve specific effects. Injectable fillers can plump thin lips, enhance shallow contours, soften facial creases, smooth wrinkles and much more.
Cosmetic fillers might be a good match for you if your goals include:
- Restoring lost volume and reducing the appearance of sagging skin (usually due to age)
- Enhancing certain features, including creating fuller lips, cheeks, or a more defined jawline
- Minimizing the appearance of undereye bags and dark circles
- Targeting static wrinkles (visible when your face is at rest), such as vertical lip lines and smile lines
Over time, your skin loses elasticity and moisture, which contributes to moderate to severe parentheses lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. JUVÉDERM® adds volume to smooth these lines and folds, to help give you the natural-looking, long-lasting results you want. JUVÉDERM® products add volume and smooth out wrinkles by replenishing natural Hyaluronic Acid that has been lost. Each product in the JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers adds volume to a different area of the face—without surgery. All JUVÉDERM® fillers are a smooth, crystal-clear gel that is administered by injection in our aesthetic clinics.
JUVÉDERM® XC was first approved by the FDA in 2006, JUVÉDERM® XC corrects moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the parentheses lines or ‘smile lines’ around the nose and mouth. JUVÉDERM® XC is injected into areas of facial tissue where moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds occur to temporarily add volume to the skin, which may give the appearance of a smoother surface. JUVÉDERM® XC lasts up to one year with optimal treatment.
JUVÉDERM® ULTRA XC is an injectable gel that temporarily adds more fullness and plumps thin lips—whether your lips have thinned over time or you simply want fuller lips-in adults over the age of 21. JUVÉDERM® ULTRA XC is also approved for smoothing and correcting moderate to severe parentheses lines, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines around the nose and mouth), in adults. JUVÉDERM® ULTRA XC lasts up to one year, with optimal correction.
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is designed to add volume beneath the skin’s surface to lift and contour the cheek area. Average patient results: 2 years.*
Juvéderm® VOLBELLA® with Lidocaine is the latest advancement in the Juvéderm® range of facial fillers, developed specifically for your lips and mouth area. It has been specifically developed as a smooth gel to give a soft, natural feel. The gel fills in lip lines and wrinkles while the hyaluronic acid within attracts and retains moisture, so results can last up to a year. Average patient results: 12 months.*
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC softens moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles to create a smoother appearance for up to 18 months.*
*With optimal treatment. Results may vary.

Lip augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that can give you fuller, plumper lips. These days, an injectables like dermal filler is the most commonly used method of lip augmentation. There are many types of dermal fillers that can be injected in your lips and around your mouth.
Submental Fat Reduction
Do you wish you could figure out how to get rid of a double chin? Genetics, facial structure, and many other factors can lead to stubborn fat in and around the chin area, but it can often be extremely challenging to target this specific fat deposit. However, the FDA has approved Kybella, a cosmetic injectable, for the treatment of double chins.
KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin to improve your profile. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
