Our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Christine Lin, shares what inspired her to serve her community by entering into medicine to help impact people’s lives in the latest article of VoyagePhoenix. Read more about her road to success and why she loves being a part of the Affiliated Dermatology team! Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Lin.
Dr. Lin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Christine Lin, MD. I am a board-certified dermatologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers. I began my career in engineering. I graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. I was especially fascinated by the field of biochemical engineering and was accepted into summer internships at large biotech companies while in college. These internships taught me many things. Among them, the most significant was my desire to be directly involved in patient care. While it was rewarding to be involved in the process of designing medications that helped improve patients’ lives, I found a desire to see first-hand how my work impacts patients. This revelation led me to pursue further education in medicine at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
While I have not had significant bumps on the road in my pursuit of a career in medicine, it was a long road that required continued dedication and perseverance. The breadth of the education that I received opened my eyes to the many different specialties and paths I could take with an education in medicine. I found my passion in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers. I truly enjoy the surgical aspect of my role and the opportunity to practice science as well as the art of medicine.
We’d love to hear more about your practice.
As Chief Medical Officer of Affiliated Dermatology, I am proud of our company’s community outreach and its partnerships with other healthcare institutions. As I matured in my role as a dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon, it became clear that medical education for the next generation is paramount in my mission for early diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers. With our affiliation with HonorHealth Dermatology Residency Program, our attending physicians have been involved in educating the next generation of dermatologists. Building a team of well-trained physician assistants and nurse practitioners at Affiliated Dermatology allows us to reach and help many more patients than we ever could in the past. This team of like-minded healthcare providers working together to deliver compassionate care to our community is what sets us apart.
What were you like growing up?
While the city of Phoenix offers the conveniences of a major metropolitan city, residents can immerse themselves in nature and solitude with just a short drive out of the city. While we enjoy warm climate year-round, the summer months are challenging, especially for parents with little ones. Fortunately, quick road trips to the cooler high country provide an easy escape from the summer heat.
