We’ve partnered with VoyagePhoenix to introduce you to our founder and CEO Richard Averitte, Jr., MD.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.

I was raised in Akron, Ohio and obtained my education throughout Ohio. I started working in the fields of engineering and project management. In 1993, I resigned from those careers and began my studies in medicine. After completing my dermatology training in 2002, I relocated and began practicing dermatology in the valley. Over the years, I have focused on providing exceptional and more immediate dermatology services. Thus, growing Affiliated Dermatology to what it is today – seven valley locations providing general dermatology, aesthetic dermatology, and Mohs surgery. We employ over 220 people and provide care to a great number of valley residents.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Of course, no road is without bumps, my own included. Some of our struggles along the way included typical start-up stresses. Even today, we still go through struggles such as training, employee engagement, structural issues related to increasing staff from 100 – 200.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Affiliated Dermatology – what should we know?

Affiliated Dermatology is a full-service dermatology group that offers medical, aesthetic and surgical dermatology valley wide. Our seven locations have convenient, extended office hours and Saturday appointments.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?

I believe that flexibility has allowed us to grow and refine our model to best offer care to patients in need of dermatology services.
